To the left is the sheltered butterfly/bee border protected by a hawthorn hedge. Photographs of how the garden has been transformed will be on display, with work in progress clearly visible.
K. 52 Lordship Lane, SG6 2BL
Welcome to a plant enthusiast’s garden, tended by a gardener who tries to paint pictures with plants. (Sometimes it works). Filled with flowers and shrubs for colours, shapes and perfume. Definitely organic: for wild and human life. Walk on - find fruitful fruit trees and shrubs, raised beds full of healthy veg. mini frog pond (newt takeover), and serious composting.
M. 51 Baldock Road, SG6 3JX
Our garden has a structure of mature trees to encourage bees, butterflies and birds and we were delighted when bees made nests in a bird box. We no longer indulge the birds with soft fruit, and fruit bushes are now enclosed in our fruit cage. We are trying to cut down the work with more gravel, and trying to attract hedgehogs with a woodpile and a hole in the hedge.
P. 23 Baldock Road, SG6 3JX
Large panoramic back garden with herbaceous borders, pond, mature trees and shrubbery, pergola, gravel garden and sculpture. We have tidied up the compost and vegetable beds since 2012, and there is a textile wrapped structure again! The re-planted front garden, although mainly a spring garden, with dahlias in late summer, has grown in interest from 4 years ago. We are also trying to add some topiary shapes in the borders and continue to attack the previous 20 years of neglect.
R. 20 Hitchin Road, SG6 3LT
A large garden, with an emphasis on nature and wildlife, adjoining one of Letchworth’s greens. Sweeping lawn with shrub borders, large pond, rockery, raised beds, leading to native trees in a wildflower meadow.
V. 63 Highfield, SG6 3PY
The circular rill runs through the conservatory! Pergola, swinging bench, a Monet-style bridge and waterfalls lead on to a woodman’s hut, via rockery, colourful beds and borders of mixed planting.
Soup and cakes available.
W. 39 Broadwater Avenue, SG6 3HG
This original 1920 double plot was extended by 15 metres in1965. The ½-acre, gently sloping south-west garden – often referred to as a park - contains an Atlas Cedar, Walnut and Persian Iron Wood, amongst many other lesser trees. Curved herbaceous beds of perennials and shrubs link shady places to sit and ponder, whilst the seven-sided gazebo offers sunnier views. Ceramic sales by Sarah Rooms Heaphy and Lynne McGechie.
